After creating a list of the Top Pizza Joints in NYC, compiled from NYMag, Chowhound, Yelp, About.com, Slice, and other web sources, we’ve begun reaching out to pizzerias.
The response has been strong, some confusion between different responses about the same restaurant, but the listings will be confirmed before they are loaded up on the website.
[JUST TO BE CLEAR: This is the list of Pizzerias we have reached out to, but the list where we have confirmed Yes/No on Rennet can be found HERE]

Mozzarelli’s Pizza found at Nussbaum & Wu at Broadway and 113th street and Mozzarelli’s actual location at 38 East 23rd Street (near Park) has great rennet-free pizza. They use very healthy ingredients and their dough choices are great (things like gluten-free, pumpernickel, whole wheat, or many others.) I highly recommend going there.
Abby,
Thanks so much for contributing – we confirmed and we’ll add them to the list. It’s great getting updates from concerned readers, so if you have any other recommendations for rennet free pizza in your area (this is for anyone!) let us know!
Hello! Are all of the pizzerias listed above rennet free including DiFara, Grimaldi’s and Patsy’s? I asked 4 people at Patsy’s and not a single person even knew what rennet was. I read that Grimaldi’s offered a rennet free option, but that most of their pizzas did have animal rennet. Is the list above confirmed and current? I have always been a vegetarian and I had no idea what rennet was until a few months ago. I will miss parmesan, I don’t think they make any type of rennet free parm. Thank you for your help!!!
so lombardis is rennet free? if so once i go on vacation to new york i will eat there for
sure
Just to be clear – the list on this page is the list our site has contacted to determine if the pizza (or other) cheese has rennet. The list of restaurants where we’ve gotten positive (or negative) responses can be found here.
