Rennet in Boca Burgers? (or not)

Slightly off the typical pizza subject, I wanted to share an update on the use of animal based rennet in Boca Burgers. Specifically, we contacted the company to see if Boca’s All American Burger (which has cheese listed as an ingredient along with “enzymes”) uses animal based rennet.

While we did not get a response from our email inquiry on the website, I spoke with Alice on the customer service line. She confirmed that all Boca Burgers, were made with non-animal based rennet except for the Grilled Vegetable Burger.

Not Pizza – Still Cheesy Goodness

Over at Celiac Chicks, where their focus is Gluten Free foods, they’ve provided a great review of a local NYC eatery S’MAC. S’MACdoes offer lots of Gluten Free items, but also plenty of rennet-free Macaroni and Cheese.

Like I mentioned, its not pizza, but it’s a great cheesy meal without the animal products.

Rennet Free Cheese Suppliers in NYC

Through our research into rennet free pizza in NYC, we’ve come across a few suppliers that are making rennet free cheese here locally in NYC. We wanted to highlight these suppliers to help encourage other sources of cheese enzymes than animal based!

Welcome to Rennet Free NYC. For vegetarians and even carnivores, the idea of eating calf liver with every bite of delicious NYC pizza is generally shocking. We’ve created this blog to raise awareness about Animal Rennet (calf/sheep stomach) in our cheese, to find out where we can eat uncontaminated pizza – Safe NYC Pizza, and eventually to Save NYC Pizza!
